Grainy Dijon Mustard

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Thank you for all your sweet comments on our fall decor throughout our home.
Today we're back to the furniture before and afters.

Before we get rolling though I thought I would mention that Elizabeth from Blue Clear Sky has graciously shared the details of the barn show on October 5 to all of her followers to spread the wealth of vintage around. I look forward to meeting many of you that day.

 Back to the painting.
I have had this dresser since May but only got around to finishing it in the last few weeks because it needed quite a bit of painting.

I used General Finishes milk paint in Somerset Gold and then used General Finishes glaze in Van Dyke Brown. It looks a bit more bright mustard in the photos than the subtle dijon mustard colour it is. I have been lusting after this combination since I saw Cassie at Primitive & Proper use it on one of her dressers. I shamelessly copied this baby.
Thanks for the idea Cassie.

I kept the original hardware on the 2 bottom drawers and switched the top drawers to vintage brass and porcelain as some of the originals were missing.

I painted the inside of the drawers Annie Sloan French Linen out of necessity as someone had extremely sloppily painted them light sky blue.

some fall bounty

  2. Great color choice and styling! Your taste and mine are so similar. It's interesting for me to look at your blog & see things we both have that are the same.

    1. we are a minority party if your taste is like mine. crazy eclectic vintage lovers unite!

  3. That colour choice is stunning...there is something about it that just sings and would look good with greys and blacks! And I'm hoping to get to your barn sale...taking down the details!

    1. i hear the singing too. lol. hope to meet you then.

  4. Love the before and after pics. What a pretty little piece of furniture.

  5. Looks like a lovely colour, Meg. That is another great piece that could be used in so many different spots in a home. I like how you painted the drawer interiors. It was an extra step but like you said about the frog tape on the dovetail joints in your paint post, it is sometimes necessary for that pro finish.

  6. yummy! i want honey mustard pretzels with a side of awesome dresser!

  7. Love how this turned out!! Great color choice on the inner drawers too.

  8. Beautiful...and your staging & photography is always so lovely!

  9. Visiting from Blue Clear Sky, so glad I came! Great makeover of the chest, it looks gorgeous in that color. Love your blog!
    New follower,

  10. I have also been lusting after this color. Patty Henning at Fabulous Finishes has a mustard-y piece that has a textured black base coat stencil under it. Where she distressed it lets this show through juuuuust enough. I've been planning to copy that and here you are with yet another beautiful piece. I think mustard is calling my name! Beautiful job. And I love how you distress where distressing would actually occur. I always enjoy reading your projects.

    1. thanks christine. i don't always love tons of distressing and find it more natural with distressing where it actually happens.

  11. SUCH a beautiful color- and I love how you staged it too. Looks perfect with the dark hardware and gold accents. Great job!

  12. What a beautiful makeover. I love the colour and the way you staged it :)

  13. Golds and Yellows are my least favorite colors but you may have changed that with this gorgeous makeover. I absolutely love it and it shouts cozy home.

    1. hi peggy and thank you
i am like that with orange and sky blue. ugh. but sometimes i see someone do a fantastic job and dislike them a little bit less.

  14. Hi Meg, love the color and it's perfect for the piece, I would love to feature it if that would
be ok please let me know,

Leave me a note. I'd love to hear from you.
