Wow post 100 and a new lampshade!

Holy Moly! I can't believe I have written 100 posts for this blog. I have met so many nice people and learned so much about photography, computers and myself. It has proven to be a great creative outlet for me and hopefully one that keeps interesting people so that I am able to continue.

I love white but, at this time of year I love the added hits of black for drama and some glitz. I got a new lampshade for my gilded lamp in the living room. It is a black linen drum shade with gold lining from Restoration Hardware. It gives this area a little pizzaz!
It's been so dark outside with all the storms, the lights are on full time it feels like. Hopefully everyone else gets to turn their lights on soon!

Have a great and safe Halloween everyone!

Finally a headboard with something to show

Sorry for the absence. I swear I have been working like a bee on some great projects but, I hate sharing midway so some have to wait.
Our spare bedroom is a great place for snuggling up and reading a book and, it also welcomes our overnight guests. The original makeover when we moved can be seen here.
I have been hunting for a cheap and great headboard to makeover for our bed for quite awhile now. The gods of Kijiji were with me when I found this guy. (the before is at the bottom of the post, it was quite hideous)
Out came the Annie Sloan Chateau Gray with pure white underneath, and a generous dose of dark and clear wax.
Of course, a new headboard means a little re-decorating for the room too.

tis the seasons for fur blankets and fur pillows everywhere. nothing says snuggle like fur.
the mansard window was found at a local antique haunt for a great deal. i almost sat on it in the store so no one else would see it while i tried to find out the price and get it in my car. what can i say, i get excited. i am so the person at estate sales and auctions shaking and waving my hands with excitement. no poker face here!

from the doorway. a sunny window keeps a lot of orchids happy.

a new vignette for the dresser with berry picking basket, antique tins and old gilt frames

i added a green blanket to the stool to tie the greens together

the antique crochet was made by my Nonni (italian for grandma)

a good glimpse of the green

up close of the top of the dresser

oohh, the before! i added the white first so when i gave it a light sand the white would come through for texture.

Well I'm off to snuggle in my newly made up room.

Have a great night,

Meg

A couple of crows

It's that time of year. The leaves are changing, the air is cooling, and nature is shooting out all kinds of great things to add to your seasonal decor.
Here are some more sneak peeks at ours. Watch out for the crows!

my favorite current palette. antique silver, white & black, wood and some aged brass

some of these crows end up moving on a day to day basis, as the "tails" from mt-tails like to hunt. Oliver the cat specifially.

one of two new wreaths i made for the season. i wrapped the wreath form in green pressed velvet, made some fabric flowers, added the pumpkins, birds and feathers and voila.

new gingham pillows added to the living room chairs. i have been a pillow making maniac lately, mostly because i can never find what i am looking for.

a sweater vase packed with birch and old family photos. you use any old sweater, cut off a sleeve and slide it onto your vase.

the painting bug attacked again to change the previously orange pumpkin to a champagne gray. another candle version of a sweater vase

the second wreath. fabric flowers and 1 side wrapped in fabric.

the upstairs hallway vignette

anyone that follows me on instagram (oliverandrust) has already seen this sweater vase. this one is a square vase with only 1 birch log.

How are you decorating your house for fall?

Have a great day,

Meg
